What We Do
Local churches and institutions host RU Recovery meetings where participants receive biblical teaching, encouragement, accountability, and support from people who understand that lasting change takes time.
The RU Recovery Program provides a structured path for personal and spiritual growth through the RU Recovery Journal, the Ten Principles of faith-based recovery, teaching about the Fruit of the Spirit, and other core curriculum resources.
Over 400 studies have been conducted on the role of faith in addiction recovery and these studies have found a success rate of 40%-60% in most faith-based programs. This is significantly higher than the success rate of programs that do not incorporate faith or spirituality into their programs.

Who We Are Today
An Independent Ministry Serving Local Churches
RU Recovery began in 1996 when Steve Curington started a small Bible study for people struggling with addiction and other stubborn habits. The first chapter was hosted at North Love Baptist Church in Rockford, Illinois.
From the beginning, the ministry was separately organized as Reformers Unanimous, NFP, an independent nonprofit organization governed by its own board of directors.
Today, RU Recovery supports approximately 300 local church and institutional chapters and continues helping churches establish new chapters. Our work is centered on strengthening those chapters, developing and preserving the core RU Recovery Program, and equipping the people who serve participants in their communities.
RU Recovery does not currently operate residential recovery homes. Our primary ministry is carried out through local chapters, institutional programs, curriculum, training, and chapter support.

RU Recovery is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit ministry governed by a board of directors. Our board, staff, and volunteers work together to protect the ministry’s mission, serve our chapters, preserve the integrity of the program, and steward RU’s resources responsibly.
