Overdosed to Recovery, Faith-Based Recovery Saved my Life

Here is my story of how I went from being overdosed to recovery through a faith-based program called RU. I got saved at the age of 10, but over the years strayed away from God. I finished high school; joined the Army; and after Basic Training and AIT, my unit deployed to the Northern Border of Kuwait/Iraq. We spent about 10 months in that country. It was a difficult experience, and after our return, I battled with many things…drugs, alcohol, and PTSD.

The past 2 years have been a steady decline in my health and will. Finally, after a long battle with depression, I overdosed on a lot of medication. The last thoughts to run through my mind were questioning if God really existed and if so, how could He let me get to that point.  My brother discovered me after about 14 hours of being overdosed. They rushed me to the ER and after working on me for a while (being unresponsive), they transferred me to a nearby hospital for better treatment, then to a behavioral facility.

When I woke up, the first thought that crossed my mind was that God had let me live. Even the doctors said there was no physical or medical explanation as to how I had survived. In their words, it was a miracle. I spent the next month in and out of different hospitals with each doctor giving a different diagnosis and little hope for the future.

I was then introduced to the RU Recovery Program through my parent’s church. At first, I was a little skeptical that it would do any good. I hit and missed sessions for a few weeks but eventually decided to stick with it. I am now close to achieving my 12 challenge pin and absolutely look forward to attending each session. With the help and guidance of this program, my life has changed for the better.

I now look to God in everything that I do and I have been growing in Him each and every day. The program has become a success at our church and more and more people are attending each week. I just wanted to thank you for the introducing me to a Bible-based doctrine that has restored the structure to my life. I am now excited to see what God will do with my life.
