I was 29 years old and had nothing.
My life had been off track for a long time. I came from a family that gave me a hard upbringing. My mother worked a lot and my stepdad (who was seventeen years older than my mom) lived on social security. Things were always tight and stressful. My stepdad was very strict. My stepdad and I didn’t get along very well. By the time I was seventeen, I had moved out to try to make it on my own. Shortly after, I got raped. After that I began to drink and was introduced to drugs. I didn’t really care for drinking, but I was hooked on crack. I tried to hide my addiction, which led to lies to those I love or who loved me. I hurt many people and ruined many relationships.
At 29 years old, an individual found themselves locked up in an institution that offered a Reformers Unanimous Program. Having been in similar situations before, they were surprised at the number of resources available to them. At this point in their life, they were exhausted from drug use and the toll it took on their family. They were determined to get clean and turn their life around. Not only did this help them feel better about themselves, but it also helped them strengthen their relationship with God. The Lord has truly blessed me. I have found my way back to my family and have reformed bonds with my sisters. Since then I have gotten married and [have] been doing really good.
