Clean From Drugs A Story of Faith-Based Recovery

There are many hurting people from many walks of life.  Such is the testimony you will read below.  God used a Faith-Based Program called RU to make her clean from drugs and alcohol. Her story is not uncommon today.  There are people in your community just like this dear lady.  Who will go and reach her?  God has given us the tool of Reformers Unanimous to reach people who feel they have lost all hope…will you use this tool to reach someone today? 1 Peter 1:3, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead…”

I was 29 years old and had nothing.

My life had been off track for a long time. I came from a family that gave me a hard upbringing. My mother worked a lot and my stepdad (who was seventeen years older than my mom) lived on social security. Things were always tight and stressful. My stepdad was very strict. My stepdad and I didn’t get along very well. By the time I was seventeen, I had moved out to try to make it on my own. Shortly after, I got raped. After that I began to drink and was introduced to drugs. I didn’t really care for drinking, but I was hooked on crack. I tried to hide my addiction, which led to lies to those I love or who loved me. I hurt many people and ruined many relationships.

At 29 years old, an individual found themselves locked up in an institution that offered a Reformers Unanimous Program. Having been in similar situations before, they were surprised at the number of resources available to them. At this point in their life, they were exhausted from drug use and the toll it took on their family. They were determined to get clean and turn their life around. While participating in the Reformers Unanimous Program, they took advantage of everything offered to them, including obtaining their GED. Not only did this help them feel better about themselves, but it also helped them strengthen their relationship with God. They credit the program with providing them with the tools to overcome the challenges they faced upon their release.

The day I got out, my best friend and longtime drug buddy died of a heart attack. It seemed so unreal. But I didn’t go and get high…instead, I prayed for strength. And, to God be the glory, I made it through that!

Clean From Drugs and Alcohol

The Lord has truly blessed me. I have found my way back to my family and have reformed bonds with my sisters. Since then I have gotten married and [have] been doing really good. I thank the Lord every day for showing me the way, blessing me with a great family and a wonderful husband. Even though I once was such a terrible person, they forgave me as I know He has. I thank you guys for this program. I am now 32 years old and have 2 ½ years clean from drugs and alcohol. Only by God’s grace was this possible!
