Story of Victory 12/19/2014

At Reformers Unanimous, we deal with many people with many different types of “addictions”. Most people consider an addict as someone with a drug or alcohol problem. However, according to an article in a popular newspaper, the number one addiction in America is sugar. The testimony below is one of many we have received from people who have found victory over an eating addiction through the ministry of Reformers Unanimous:

TESTIMONY FROM A STUDENT OF REFORMERS UNANIMOUS

I have been coming to RU since Oct. 29, 2010. I have an eating addiction. 26 years ago I weighed 225 lbs. Thirteen months ago I weighed my highest: 387 lbs. Today, thanks to God and this program, I weigh 318 lbs., so I have lost 70 pounds. When my doctor first wanted me to see a nutritionist, I was kicking and screaming, because I did not want to change. Slowly by doing what I knew God wanted me to do, I changed the way I ate. As I started to go to church, read my Bible, and do my challenges, and go to RU every Friday, I have changed the way I eat. Six months ago, I found out I had stage three kidney disease, so I had to change the way I ate even more!! With all the prayers and lots of support from people at RU, especially my group leaders and the ladies in my group, my kidneys have improved from what they were six months ago. I give God all the glory and praise for doing this for me. I also give God the praise for helping me totally change my way of eating. Last month I saw my doctor and he told me that medically he doesn’t understand how my kidneys could have improved so much after being so bad. I know in my heart that God has done the change!

As God has been doing this, I have been able to forgive a lot of people in my past who have hurt me. Even more so I have forgiven myself for doing this to me. The following are some verses from the Bible that have meant a lot to me and an RU principle that applies to me, as God has been removing my guilt for not honoring my body as a holy temple.

Psalm 1:1-3  “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (KJV) 19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

Principle 10 – God balances guilt with blame. Accept the blame for your actions and God will remove the guilt.
