Proverbs 3:9-10 (Dissected and Defined)
Honour (show worth to) the LORD with thy substance (your being) and with the firstfruits (the first profits of anything) of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

These are great verses, bearing a promise every Christian would like to claim. It’s an easy formula:
If you do your part (give), then God will do His part (given unto you). God promises that, if we honor Him with our being (life) and with the first profits of that lifestyle, our needs will be abundantly met!
In 2001, I was an overworked, well-paid businessman that was trying to be a father, husband, employee, and leader of 200 addicts. We had not even begun the national ministry that boasts hundreds of chapters, and it probably never would have started—if something didn’t change. What was it? It was this verse.
Giving to God what He has Given to You
Dissected and Defined
Proverbs 3:9 says, “esteem the Lord with your being” and then the second part of the formula is to “esteem the Lord with the first profits of all thy increase.” God gives us two commodities in life. He gives money (part 2) and He gives time (part 1)! I was giving God 10% of my money, but I was not giving Him 10% of my time. My time was spent as a “hit or miss” on everything, resulting in my being very unproductive.
I decided to give God 10% of my life. That was 16.7 hours per week. That consisted of one hour per day in my journal and ten hours per week at church and in my chapter—a total of 17 hours. From that day forward I have been more productive every year than the previous year and six years running. Why? Because I gave time and time was given unto me.
So, during this season of shopping, parties, galas, and giving, don’t forget about the One who first gave to you so many years ago. Give to Him first and foremost in your time and money, and you, too, will enjoy the benefits of His giving back to you!
