Wonderful Savior & Lord

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)

Here we find a “Christmas verse” in the middle of the Old Testament. This verse is prophetical and we know it has already come to pass, yet parts of this verse are yet to come.

Wonderful proclamation

“Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder…”

This verse speaks of Christ’s humanity as He humbled Himself and became man. It also speaks of His deity. He was 100% man, but He was also 100% God. I noticed the Son was given, which means that He already existed! This was one of several proclamations or announcements that were made about the Christ child being born. When Christ was born, there was joy for the world; for the angel said, “I bring you good tidings of great joy” (Luke 2:10). When our children were born, we called everyone. Today, parents notify others through facebook, twitter, text, phone, and other ways to exclaim the joy of a new born child.

Wonderful possession

“Unto us…”

The emphasis here is “us.” Christ was given to us and this brings an unprecedented opportunity for us. Just last week, 20 children, and 7 adults died at the hand of a murderer in Connecticut. I was busy all day with Rockford Training Days. I later caught up on the day’s events and the horrific pictures and images that are etched on our minds forever.

We tried to make sense out of things that are senseless. Nowhere in the news did we hear anything from preachers; instead, the hope was in psychologists. After the event, we have a government wanting to lean on tighter gun control. They think that is the answer. Why have missed the proclamation and the wonderful possession of Christ? The lack of Christ in our country is where our focus should be! Bringing God back into our lives, whether in schools or in homes, is the answer!

Wonderful Person

“Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace…”

Christ is Wonderful! He is the best Counselor of all! The Mighty God reveals Jesus Christ as the supreme Authority. He is the Everlasting Father, which reminds us of his tender care and compassion towards us. And when He is the Prince in your life, He will admonish you with peace that passeth all understanding. One day, He will be Prince of this world, and wars and rumors of war will all end. There will be no more violence on the earth. He shall reign then…and He desires to reign now in each of our hearts.
