“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)
The topic of homosexuality has caught my attention in recent days because the President has changed his position and used the word evolved. I am amazed at the number of personalities that are asking others the question, “Where do you stand on this issue?”
When will we cease this foolishness and ask God what is right and what is not right? Man is choosing to do that which is right in his own eyes. Destruction is soon to follow. History has proven to repeat itself. Just because something is legal, does not mean it is not sinful.
Alcohol may be legal, but it is still sinful. Marijuana may be legal in some states, but it is still sinful. The real issue is with God. That is all that should matter. RU Principle #1 is the only real place to start for recovery – “If God is against it, so am I”.
At the dedication of the Temple, God appeared to Solomon and gave him some important instructions. It gives the divine formula for national healing. It involves humbling, praying, seeking, and forsaking.
“Shall humble themselves.” This is where it begins. Pride causes so much trouble. It was Lucifer’s problem and it is a big problem in our society, as seen by the emphasis on our self-esteem and on rights. If one does not boast and brag today, people think he has an inferiority complex. But pride is evil. It is selfish (“my rights” emphasis), it is cruel (tramples on others), and corrupting. Pride is obvious in those who choose paths other than God’s path.
Psalm 9:12, “When he maketh inquisition for blood, he remembereth them: he forgetteth not the cry of the humble.”
Psalm 10:12, “Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up thine hand: forget not the humble.”
Psalm 10:17, “LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear…”
“Pray.” To pray to God acknowledges your need of divine help and healing. I wonder how much praying is really going on in the lives of those who choose things that are legal, but still sinful in God’s eyes. When our nation is at war and we get on our knees and pray, then in peace times we get off our knees and legalize sin. This is an indication that something is wrong.
Psalm 65:2, “O thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come.”
Psalm 109:4, “For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.”
Acts 6:4, “But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.”
“Seek my face.” Not many folk are seeking God today. You can tell this by where they go on Sunday. Few show up at church to worship God. Few are interested enough in God to seek Him through His Word and prayer. Most people have little time for God. But until this nation seeks God sincerely and regularly, its ills will not be healed.
Deuteronomy 4:29, “But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.”
Isaiah 55:6, “Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near.”
Jeremiah 29:13, “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”
“Turn from their wicked ways.” This does not mean to legalize evil by making laws to allow evil conduct to exist without arrest. It does not mean to excuse our sins because everyone else is doing it. Nor does it mean to belittle the seriousness of evil. It means to forsake our evil ways, and to forsake anything that would encourage evil. Our land, however, is pursuing evil, not forsaking it.
Isaiah 55:7, “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.”
Acts 8:22, “Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.”
Isaiah 5:20, “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”
I can take you across this great country and introduce you to people who have started with Principle #1 and their lives have been enriched and transformed. No longer are they addicted to sinful homosexual ways. No longer are they ensnared by alcohol, marijuana, or any other sinful, controlling substances. They have been changed.
1 Corinthians 6:11, “And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”
