God Sees Everything Including Your Thoughts

Proverbs 15:11 Dissected & Defined

Hell and destruction are before (in the power of) the LORD: how much more then the hearts (meditations) of the children of men?

Daily-Devo Paraphrase

God Sees Everything

This verse is telling us that God sees everything. He sees things that we cannot possibly see, and He knows things that we cannot possibly know.

Hell is the home of Satan, and destruction is the English translation of the name given to Satan as the overseer of Hell: the dwelling place of the dead without Christ (“Apollyon,” Revelation 9:11).

God Sees Everything In Hell

The bottomless pit is a literal physical destination of no return. Man cannot find his way there; and when he is placed there, he cannot return from it. We could never know what goes on there. Yet, God monitors this place and controls whom He allows to enter therein. He is aware of everything that goes on in Hell and those who participate in it. Job 26:6 reads “Hell is naked before him, and destruction hath no covering.”

God Sees Everything Including Our Thoughts

Likewise, if God can so dwell on the behavior patterns of the condemned, how much more would He consider the thought patterns of mankind? Surely the thoughts of the redeemed and the thoughts of those yet to be condemned are of more importance to God than that which takes place among the condemned.

In comparison, we read in Hebrews 4:12, 13: “…the word of God is…a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him.”

God views your thoughts. Our thoughts are opened to Him. This is not true for us. Just like hell is hidden from us, the true sight of our thoughts are likewise not discernable without His assistance. So you see, we must use God’s Word to properly discern our hearts. Our hearts are so desperately wicked that they are more deceitful than the devil. Jeremiah told us our hearts were deceitful above all things!

Man looks on that which is external. God looks on that which is internal and undiscernable to man. When He looks on your heart, does it look like it’s Hell….on Earth?

Steve Curington grew up in a Christian home and graduated from North Love Christian School in 1984. After high school, Steve started a 10-year addiction to alcoholism and cocaine. After a serious car accident, Steve found complete sobriety through his relationship with Jesus Christ. After his recovery in 1996, Steve began Reformers Unanimous, a faith-based addiction ministry. What started as a humble, Friday night addiction class with four regular attendees in Rockford, Illinois, grew to a class of more than 300 people from the community and then spread to other churches across the country and around the world. The founder of Reformers Unanimous International (RU) died suddenly on October 30, 2010. Mr. Curington, a husband and father of five children, was only 45, but he accomplished more in his 15 years of ministry than many do in a lifetime. We know his work, his writing, his voice, and his reach will live on.
