Meditate: Show Your Willing Reception

Proverbs 2:1 & 5

“My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee…Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.”

Dissected & Defined

Receive means to willingly retain. Hide means to protect. Commandments are a set of rules. Fear of the Lord is a synonym for wisdom (Job 28:28). It is best expressed by a respect for God’s authority and power over all. The knowledge of God is not information about God, but rather a personal relation with God.

Daily-Devo Paraphrase

Solomon taught his son to willingly retain the underlying meanings of what he was teaching him and to protect himself through meditation (we hide things in our minds and we meditate in our hearts). Thus, we can conclude that willingly accepting his father’s teaching and consistent meditation on this teaching would protect the child from great harm in life.

This wise father realized that through proper retention and meditation on valuable teachings, his son would develop wisdom. This wisdom is described in this passage (and many others) as a fear of the Lord.

Meditate on Proper Teaching

Meditation on proper teaching is a show of willing receiving and strong desires to protect (hide) those truths for one’s own benefits.

And what benefits those would be. You gain an intimate personal relationship with the Father that manifests itself in a deep respect for the authority of God and a constant realization of His power over the universe.

With these truths hidden in our meditators, we will be in a much better position to face adversity. Why? Because we will find ourselves dwelling on this positive truth: God is sovereign over all and my life is kept safely in His hands. What a respect that will develop. Yea, what wisdom is displayed in circumstances such as this.

Do you meditate? If so, on what? Could it be we fail to meditate on what God intends because we aren’t willing to receive it? Or, are we are failing to listen altogether? Just a thought.

Think about it. A lot!

Check Out: Preparing for Peace By  Steven B Curington

CE-129_Preparing_for_Peace_BookDo you ever wonder how some Christians can remain so calm amid the most trying of circumstances? Do you feel as if no matter how hard you try, or even the harder you try, the more you lose your peace? The primary source of turmoil and strife in our lives is our enemy, Satan. In this power-packed book, Steve Curington shows that peace is one of the ultimate weapons when faced with Spiritual Warfare.

Sharing is Caring

Steve Curington grew up in a Christian home and graduated from North Love Christian School in 1984. After high school, Steve started a 10-year addiction to alcoholism and cocaine. After a serious car accident, Steve found complete sobriety through his relationship with Jesus Christ. After his recovery in 1996, Steve began Reformers Unanimous, a faith-based addiction ministry. What started as a humble, Friday night addiction class with four regular attendees in Rockford, Illinois, grew to a class of more than 300 people from the community and then spread to other churches across the country and around the world. The founder of Reformers Unanimous International (RU) died suddenly on October 30, 2010. Mr. Curington, a husband and father of five children, was only 45, but he accomplished more in his 15 years of ministry than many do in a lifetime. We know his work, his writing, his voice, and his reach will live on.
